I'm a Pathologist. Ozempic & Mounjaro Aren't Actually Weight Loss Drugs (What GLP-1s Do Inside Your Body)
Ozempic and Mounjaro aren't actually weight loss drugs. I'm a pathologist, and in this episode I show you what GLP-1 medications do inside your body. I also cover the one thing that decides whether they change your life or quietly leave you worse off than where you started.
In 2005, the FDA approved a diabetes drug. Then something nobody planned for happened. Hearts got stronger. Kidneys healed. Sleep apnea reversed. Women with PMOS (formerly called PCOS) started ovulating again. For 20 years, nobody had a clean explanation for why one class of drugs did all of this. Now we do.
I'm Dr. Amin Hedayat, a triple board-certified physician and medical school assistant clinical professor. I break down what Ozempic, Mounjaro, Wegovy, Foundayo and Zepbound do at the cellular level, why the miracle crowd and the poison crowd both get it wrong, and the bridge framework that decides whether these drugs work for you or backfire.
In this episode:
Why GLP-1 was never only a blood sugar drug
The clue from the SELECT trial that broke the case open
3 silent habits that weaken your body's natural GLP-1 signal
The honest picture on muscle loss, cancer risk and side effects
5 foundations that decide whether your results last
What the FLOW kidney trial and the 2024 sleep apnea data show
